A Bad Think “This band relates back to a time where the music was the only thing that mattered to us - a creative process that should not have any rules or regulations in its creation - a process lacking in a lot of today's music.” – Michael Marquart – A Bad Think Based in Virginia Beach, A Bad Think is a studio-only project that delivers richly crafted musical textures topped with airy and heartfelt vocals. The band’s conceptual basis is the exploration of the bittersweet sides of life - love, death and sadness – with the intent of making the listener see these things in a more positive light. Now, three years after their self-titled debut, the band is releasing a new collection of original songs with their sophomore release Simple Rhymes. The overall feel of Simple Rhymes relies on a highly polished production aesthetic covering a broad spectrum of sounds. Much of the album has an energetic progressive rock and new wave sound that harkens to the best moments of the ‘80s, but there are also mellow flashes of acoustic guitar and acappella vocals. On top of the acoustic instrumentation A Bad Think has layered ethereal sounds and electronic textures, augmenting the core sound of the band and creating a dreamy atmosphere. The lineup of A Bad Think is driven by frontman Michael Marquart, former drummer for many well-known acts including Flock of Seagulls and Alias. As the owner of the world-class Windmark Studios (where Simple Rhymes was produced) he has worked with artists including No Doubt, Sponge, Buffalo Tom, Frente, Love Spit Love, The Meat Puppets, The Nixons and Dishwalla. His daughter Samantha Marquart joins him on the album on vocals. The two even team up for a father-daughter duet on the chilling “Long Way To Go.” Completing the lineup of the band is bassist Don Burford who was formerly in the Flock of Seagulls rhythm section with Marquart.
