Susan Cattaneo Tuesday, May 12th No one can say that Susan Cattaneo doesn’t take chances. A mother of two and former award-winning television writer/producer, Susan used to spend her nights performing with a funk folk band in New York City. With little time to dedicate to her music, Susan left New York and moved to Boston to pursue music full time, attending the Berklee College of Music on a vocal talent scholarship. Hired right after graduating to teach in the songwriting department, Susan has spent the past few years splitting her time between teaching at Berklee and writing in Nashville. So, it’s no wonder then that her new album is titled Brave and Wild. Always a songwriter, this album marks Susan’s return to her other love, performing. All 11 tracks on the album were written or co-written by Cattaneo. Her co-writers include Scarlet Keys (writer of Lucy Diamond’s hit song, I Wanna Be Rich), Joie Scott (writer of Colin Ray’s number one hit, “Not That Different”), Kristin Cifelli (acclaimed Boston singer-songwriter), and Denny Hemingson and Dean Brown (both members of Tim McGraw’s Dancehall Doctors). Brave and Wild features an all-star cast from the New England music scene. The album was produced by Lorne Entress (Ronnie Earl, Lori McKenna, Catie Curtis), who also plays drums on the record. Credits go on to read: Duke Levine (Mary Chapin Carpenter, Peter Wolf, Jonatha Brooke, Graham Parker, Aimee Mann) and Kevin Barry (Paula Cole, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Catie Curtis, Susan Tedeschi, Shawn Colvin) on guitars, Richard Gates (Suzanne Vega, Patty Larkin, Mary Gauthier, Mark Sandman, Richard Thompson) on bass, Dave Limina (Ronnie Earl, B.B. King) on piano and organ and Dave Sholl (Big Mama Thornton, Barrence Whitfield, Dr. John) on tenor and baritone sax. In addition, acclaimed folk singer Mark Erelli joins Susan for a duet on Get Back the Longing, and R&B vocalist Jeff Ramsey(Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Sting, Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau) adds some tasty background vocals to the soulful song “Suddenly.”
