The schedule for Uplift, which is on Saturday, August 6 at Oak Park in Greenfield, NH is now up. Reggae-rock headliners Roots of Creation will close out the night after a packed day of music. The rain or shine event begins at noon and ends at 11 p.m. Music rotates between two stages, one a gazebo stage in a field and the other a pavilion stage with covering to protect attendees from the elements. (See full schedule below.)
The full lineup also includes music from many returning acts including Congo Sanchez, the high energy Latin/reggae/hip hop trio from D.C. and favorite local rockers Hug the Dog and The Youngest Sun, who bring some serious jams. Modern Fools from Peterborough will also be back again.
“Hug the Dog is always inspired after we play at Uplift,” said lead singer and guitarist Wes Aldrich. “It has one of the most positive and creative atmospheres of any festival, and truly stands out as a well produced event.” This will be the band’s third year returning to the “community driven” day festival.
Phileep, a solo performer from Brookline, NH with an indie flair is new to Uplift this year, along with local electronic music producer Moderately Supreme. Other new acts include The Garcia Project, a popular tribute to the Jerry Garcia Band, and NH seacoast bluegrass favorites, Rockspring. Adam and the Flood (formerly Adeem) will also be back, but this time with a new band and fresh songs from his newly recorded EP.
All of the proceeds from ticket sales for the festival will be donated to the SMS music program. Last year’s festival was able to raise $9,487.54 for cancer patients being treated at Monadnock Community Hospital. Raising money for cancer patients was especially personal to the Uplift organizers who had recently lost loved ones to cancer.
Public schools have limited funding and the unfortunate part is when funding gets cut, the arts and music are often the first programs to either go or lose out. With that being said, SMS is in desperate need of new instruments for their middle school students. Many of the current instruments in use are quite old and barely hanging on. Not only are they in rough shape but there aren’t even enough to go around.
“We at Uplift feel that a strong music and arts curriculum makes for a stronger student,” said the festival organizers. “We feel this is a great cause and we hope everyone else does too!”
Attendees have also been invited to donate new and used instruments to SMS via the Uplift Music Festival. Brett Wilson of Roots of Creation says that he will be donating one of his personal guitars to help a young student make music. Wilson taught himself to play, but did become a member of the high school jazz band where he began to learn how to solo and jam with others.
Uplift Music Festival will have an assortment of food vendors serving up tasty bites, including hamburgers and hotdogs, and cold beverages. Arts and craft vendors will also be on site selling unique items made in the community. There will be activities for the little ones too, including the very popular bounce houses and on site playground.
Advance tickets are available for $20 online or in person at Harlow’s Pub in Peterborough. Tickets will be available for $30 at the gate. Children 15 and under are a suggested $5 donation at the gate.
Coolers are permitted and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and prepare for a full day of live music and fun outdoors. Oak Park is located at 791 Forest Rd. in Greenfield, NH directly across from Greenfield State Park.
