Spotify is pushing to release more original content on the platform. While Spotify is known primarily as a source for music, the company is adding three original music themed podcasts to their streaming service.
The company notes: “With each series, listeners will get an intimate look into music’s most notable, interesting and often untold stories.”
The first podcast, “Showstopper”, premiered February 23. Naomi Zeichner, Editor in Chief of The Fader magazine, hosts the program. In this podcast, Zeichner presents a pop cultural analysis of great music moments in popular TV shows, such as Girls and Stranger Things.
The second podcast, “Unpacked”, is set to premiere on Spotify March 14. Two music industry professionals host this program, Matt FX and Michele Santucci. FX is music supervisor for TV show Broad City, and Santucci works at Spotify studios. In the podcast, the hosts will interview musicians and other creative beings at festivals around the world. One of the festivals the hosts will cover is South by Southwest, which is taking place in March.
Premiering in April is “The Chris Lighty” story. Lighty is a music executive, known for working with hip-hop artists like Missy Elliot and 50 cent. Lighty will be sharing his story and struggles during his career in the music industry.
According to Spotify, additional Spotify original podcasts are expected to drop as the year continues.
