Stone Mountain is the riotous rock debut of California’s LED ZAP. Frontman Ron Wright has an illustrious history working with musicians such as Tiran Porter (Doobie Brothers) and Richard Bryant (Little River Band). Stone Mountain features a formidable lineup of personnel including bassist Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder), drummer Denny Fongheiser (Heart, Tracy Chapman, Seal), and Grammy award winning keyboardist Jeff Bova (Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Meat Loaf). Bobby Kimball, original lead singer of Toto, contributes vocals, as does Davey Pattison, known for fronting Ronnie Montrose’s Gamma and his work with Robin Trower. Background vocalist Valerie Carter’s recording credits include James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt and Don Henley.
Stone Mountain’s heavy sound comes courtesy of Wright himself as well as Matthew Thompson and Ron Nevison (The Who, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osborne, KISS). Songs like “Digital Highway” and title-track “Stone Mountain” exemplify Led Zap’s classic hard rock sound, ready-made for toe tapping and head banging. “Fast Lovin’ Woman” turns the temperature down, leaving space for an impassioned vocal performance and a virtuoso guitar solo. “Rock music is in my blood and spirit.,” says Wright, “I love being in the studio, and recording rock music is fun. The theme of Stone Mountain is straightforward: hard rock ’n’ roll.”
