EMILY GROGAN’s new single “Tell Your Friends” is a reminder that we all could have so much more if we embraced our shared humanity, creating compassion (“don’t kill your enemies / don’t you know that they’re just there to show you your worst side”), and step beyond the us vs. them mentality and our culture’s harmful focus on material wealth. Musically, the track’s dynamic flow follows the feeling of being overwhelmed by society, stepping back, and gaining a new perspective, from quiet contemplation to rocking abandon and back again. “Tell Your Friends” is about coping with the amount of chaos, division, and fear happening in the world. Grogan states: “I found myself pulling more inward, and in the moments when I stepped back into the world, I saw the chaos from a different perspective.
So much of what surrounds us seems built around fear.” (‘The TV blares to cover up what’s behind, I’ll cover your ears, and then I’ll cover mine’). “We are all part of something bigger,” according to Grogan. “I believe that when we move beyond fear and into compassion, that ‘we’ll walk through the fields where there’s no wrong or right and build us a tower of infinite light’.” In other words, we have the ability to create a more beautiful world, both in our personal lives and on a larger scale—“Tell Your Friends”!
